Egypt
Ras Umm Hesiwa has a plateau of beautiful hard corals, with many large table corals that make for good photography. Blue-spotted rays and sleeping sharks may be found beneath the large table corals. On the surrounding sand rays and crocodile fish appear, and bannerfish and butterflyfish keep to the recesses of the wall. Sharks also show up now and then, and, with luck, large fish appear. On the northern ridge, more exposed to the open sea, pelagics may pass by.
Since the site has no shelter from the waves, it tends to be dived only when the sea is calm. In the Safaga region diving tends to run all year, and the wind usually determines which reefs are open in each season. On this coast, the water tends to be warmest in summer, while spring and autumn tend to have the most comfortable air.
