Egypt
The original name of the place would have been Ras el Shateen, "Head of the two beaches", because of a rock formation that divides it into two beaches, and foreigners' pronunciation would have turned it into Ras Shaytan. The topography is contoured, with narrow valleys, sand-filled depressions and deep chasms, and it gives the feeling of diving through canyons and mountain ranges. There are red, green and purple anemones, hard corals, octopus, puffer fish and moon groupers. The site also has a seagrass meadow with seahorses and pipefish, along with table corals, and there is the possibility of encountering rays and sharks. In the Nuweiba area, the best time to dive is usually May to June and September to November, while from January to April the sea usually gets colder, with chilly winds.
