At Ponta Oeste on Ilha dos Papagaios, medium-sized fish, turtles, badejos and frades are commonly seen. On the bottom of the third cove there are pipe sections (manilhas) placed in an attempt to create an artificial reef; the attempt was partly successful, and it is common to find mangangás and badejos inside them. Enseada 3 is the stretch of the island that receives the most visitors, and for years intense tourism has been affecting the corals there. For diving in the Cabo Frio region, the best recommended season tends to be from March to June.
