Maldives
KFFC (Kalifushifaru Corner) and The Peak lie at the outer entrance of Huravalhi Kandu, and the dive crosses from one to the other. The Peak is a tongue-shaped reef, and KFFC is a reef edge with several terraces and overhangs.
On the sandy edge of the channel there are stingrays. A school of batfish usually stays near the corners, with bannerfish and many red snappers. There are moray eels among coral blocks, as well as turtles. The water funneling through the channel attracts schools of fish, eagle rays, tunas and sharks.
Among about 1,110 sites surveyed in the Maldives, the Kuredhu, Huravalhi and Komandoo area had the highest mean encounter rate of silvertip sharks and the second highest of grey reef sharks. In the channels of this area, the largest aggregations of silvertip sharks, of 50 to 80 individuals, occurred between August and November 2022. In 2022, on the channel dives recorded in the area, spotted eagle rays were seen on 434 of 519 dives, with an average of 10 individuals per dive, throughout the year.
