Maldives
Divers normally descend along a line fixed to a hole in the reef, and the three coral mounds are full of windows, overhangs and caves. An alternative is to do the dive as a drift and finish in the sandy channel, among fields of anemones.
There are squirrelfish, soldierfish, moray eels, a group of some 20 oriental sweetlips in a cave, enormous swarms of anthias and hundreds of bannerfish. At the north end of the reef there are large groups of bluestripe snapper, oriental sweetlips and fusiliers; on the eastern outcrop, barracudas, big tuna and trevally.
Research at the site has recorded 73 species of fish, as well as turtles. The top of the reef is famous for its large numbers of anemone fish. It is usually dived throughout the year.
