The coral life at Nufena Haa is described as very intact and beautiful. In Laamu Atoll, the hard coral looked very healthy in 2012. In the region, in 2012, mantas seemed to be present for most of the year, with the caveat that the observation came from only two years of presence in the atoll. The atoll's isolated inner reefs, together with seagrass meadows and mangroves, have been a focus of research and conservation since 2011.
