Maldives
The reef, in the center of the South Ari Atoll, has steep walls and a large overhang. In July 1998, after the bleaching, most of the hard corals were dead and covered in algae, but the reef was considered more colorful and in better condition than other sites studied near Angaga. That year, a fair number of butterflyfish and many anemonefish were seen, along with one sweetlip, few sea cucumbers (including Bohadschia graeftei) and one crown-of-thorns starfish.
