Maldives
In Dhivehi, 'beyru' means 'outside', and the name refers to the outer reef of Meyyafushi island. The reef combines a sandy plateau with several cleaning stations and a wall with overhangs and soft corals, as well as terraces decorated with sea fans. Manta rays may visit the cleaning stations at certain times of the year, and stingrays, eagle rays, tuna, nurse sharks, batfish and turtles can be seen throughout the year. Stingrays rest on the sand, and morays, lionfish and soldierfish hide in the crevices. Schools of tuna, trevally and barracuda patrol the edge of the reef.
