Egypt
A huge coral fan marks the end of Marsa Shagra bay: divers pass beneath it and exit to the open sea. The north side is very lively and full of fish. In the first stretch, under the anchored boats, schools of squid appear, and just after leaving the bay, schools of barracuda. In April 2016, a south-to-north current lasted the whole week, and the outer stretch to the north was partly closed to diving.
Along this coast there are green and hawksbill turtles, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, stingrays and reef fish, and whale sharks and manta rays occasionally pass by. Spinner dolphins can also be seen in the region, especially in the early morning. In the region, the sea is usually slightly calmer from September to May, and September to November are considered the best months for diving.
