Marsa Nakari was used as a port city in the early Roman period, and remains of the ancient settlement lie on a hill overlooking the bay. The reef stretches north and south from the entry point and offers six different profiles. The north reef is known for its hard corals and its anemone city, while the south side has pinnacles and swim-throughs.
For macro lovers, there are nudibranchs, shrimps, velvetfish, ghost pipefish and seamoths. Turtles are fairly common in the bay, as are rays, Napoleon wrasse and reef squid, and a school of Indian mackerel patrols the bay. Dolphins and reef sharks sometimes appear, and early divers may see dolphins.
In the region diving is possible all year round, and the sea is usually slightly calmer from September to May.
