Maldives
Madoogali is now an abandoned island that, until a few years ago, housed a renowned resort, of which only ruins remain. The resort hosted mostly Italians, with Italian food and entertainment, and later began receiving guests of various nationalities, under the management of its Maldivian owners. Life on the reef had declined during the resort period and has been gradually repopulating since it closed. Along colorful coral walls, the reef has schools of reef fish, groupers, mackerels, eagle rays, turtles and white-tip sharks.
