The Madifushi Private Island resort was officially inaugurated in January 2023, at a ceremony with Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom, who recalled that Meemu was heavily devastated by the 2004 tsunami. In the Meemu region, the best diving conditions tend to be in the dry season, from December to April, with little wind and little rain. In the region, the monsoon usually runs from May to November, and in June the sea can sometimes be too rough for boats.
