Maldives
Maaneyre was formerly Fuvahmulah's main harbour. The channel was hand-cut by the island's ancestors so that fishing boats could cross the reef, and this work created the site's overhangs and walls. The channel holds schools of Bigeye Barracuda and Bigeye Trevally, with Batfish near the overhangs. Hard and soft corals attract angelfish, butterflyfish and parrotfish, which in turn attract larger predators. From December to April, access to the west coast tends to be more reliable.
