Kondey Coral Garden

These are coral gardens with turtles, moray eels and an abundance of tropical fish. Kondey island has large ruins from the Maldivian Buddhist era, and the ruined stupa called Kondey Haviththa lies on the east of the island, about 240 m from the shore. A Makara (sea monster) head in stone was found in Kondey during Thor Heyerdahl's expedition. The master carpenters of Malé's Hukuru Miskiy (Friday Mosque), Ali Maavadi Kaleyfaanu and Mahmud Maavadi Kaleyfaanu, were from Kondey. In Huvadhoo, the best time to dive is usually the northeast monsoon, from January to May.
