Kani Thila

There are overhangs with black coral bushes and bubble anemones on the reef top, shoals of fusiliers, banner fish and batfish, and tiny shrimps and crabs in the anemones. The green turtles are big and very shy. In the name, thila is the Dhivehi term for an underwater pillar, a formation that does not reach the surface. In the Maldives, the clearest water is usually expected from December to April on the east side of the atolls, where Kanifinolhu is located, and clear water has fewer nutrients and a lower density of life.
