Maldives
In the name of the site, kandu is the Dhivehi word for "channel" and uthuru means "north" (dhekunu is "south"). Operators treat the Hulhudheli channel as two sites: this one, to the north, and Hulhudheli Kandu Dhekunu, to the south.
The site was already listed in a diving leaflet published in March 2016.
In the Dhaalu and Faafu region, the best visibility and manta encounters tend to occur between December and April. In Dhaalu, the southwest monsoon, from May to October, brings nutrient-rich currents and tends to increase the chance of seeing mantas and pelagic fish.
