Maldives
The pass is short, 80 to 100 m long, and a sandy saddle about 30–35 m wide separates the inner side from the outer side. A ridge crosses the mouth of the channel, with several small thilas, and on the south side a recess in the reef forms a more sheltered area with an outcrop inside. At the channel mouth, the corals form a sort of barrier across it, and many big fish gather along it when the current comes in.
On the inner side of the pass are the usual stingrays; on the outside, at the edge, when there is current, whitetip sharks and eagle rays show up. The eagle rays sometimes appear in large groups. Barracudas and tunas hunt in the schools of fusiliers.
On the outer slope live a school of red snappers and another of humpback snappers, and on the outside there are many fragile bushes of green Tubastraea coral. There are also living soft and hard corals and many fish.
