Maldives
Hulhidhoo Kandu was one of the stations sampled during the scientific cruises in the Maldives, with a survey there in 1998. In the Thinadhoo area, snappers, clownfish, napoleons, sea turtles, parrotfish, angelfish, stingrays, white trevallies, tuna, eagle rays, barracudas, leopard sharks and white tip reef sharks are listed. In Vaavu Atoll, the dry season usually runs from December to April, with little rain and wind. From May to November there is usually more wind and rain in the atoll, and tidal changes and wind can bring plankton blooms, which in turn can attract filter feeders such as manta rays and whale sharks.
