The Grand Waterworld, formerly Sunwing Waterworld Makadi, is linked to the neighboring hotels by walkways that give access to the pier. The hotel sits on the northern stretch of Makadi Bay, fringed by a coral reef about 1.6 km long, where you can drift-snorkel from the Makadi pier to the Fort Arabesque beach.
More than a hundred reef fish species live in the shore waters of Makadi Bay, and the list for the northern stretch includes hawksbill turtle, spotted eagle ray, Red Sea anemonefish and giant moray. In Makadi Bay, turtles, blue-spotted stingrays, morays, octopuses and schools of fish show up on almost every dive, and those looking for macro can find seahorses, ghost pipefish and nudibranchs.
In the region, the chances of meeting dolphins or eagle rays tend to rise in the winter months. For snorkeling in the bay, late spring and early autumn tend to be the best times, when both sea and air are pleasantly warm.
