Hithadhoo West

There is a close-up photo of a turtle taken at this site. In 2017 records, Laamu appeared as one of the few places in the Maldives where reef manta rays could be seen at the same site throughout the year. In those same records, sightings of these rays in Laamu showed two peaks: May/June and October/November. The atoll was declared a Hope Spot by the NGO Mission Blue and, two months later, the Maldivian government designated six areas of Laamu as Marine Protected Areas.
