Maldives
The thila is home to big schools of barracuda, nurse sharks and dogtooth tuna. In the northern atolls, the best time to dive usually runs from December to April; from June to September, visibility usually drops because of plankton, and many manta rays usually show up. In Dhivehi, "thila" means a submerged pinnacle, the type of formation that gives the site its name.
