Maldives
The name comes from Dhivehi, in which "faru" is a reef edge that rises above the water and encloses a lagoon. The reef descends in a gentle slope, with some overhangs. In Raa Atoll you can dive all year; the sea tends to be calmer during the northeast monsoon, from January to May, and rougher during the southwest monsoon, from May to November, a period when there is a better chance of seeing mantas and whale sharks, particularly from August to November.
