Maldives
The name comes from Dhivehi, in which "giri" means shallow pinnacle. Sloping areas and coral blocks form canyons wide enough to swim through. On top, snappers, soldierfish, squirrelfish and butterflyfish school, and groupers rest on the sandy bottom.
