Levanzo, Sicily, Italy
Cala Faraglione sits on Levanzo's southwest coast, reached by a short boat hop along the shoreline, named for the limestone stack rising off its pebble beach with Favignana visible across the channel. The site lies within Zone B of the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area, Europe's largest MPA, where unguided diving requires a second-level certification. Underwater, the mixed seabed alternates Posidonia oceanica meadows with rocky reef. Salema, sea bream, parrotfish and damselfish are recorded in the surrounding waters, along with dusky grouper on the area's deeper rocks; mauve stinger jellyfish can appear in numbers, so check conditions before entering. Boat entry, intermediate difficulty; Egadi dive centers operate from Easter through mid-November, weather permitting.
