In the Thaa Atoll region, the southwest monsoon tends to be the time when reef mantas (Manta alfredi) are seen at aggregation sites. Fahala Beyru is no. 9 on a map of 28 dive sites in Thaa Atoll. In Maldivian dive site names, "beyru" means "outside" in Dhivehi. Thaa Atoll has 66 islands, of which only 13 are inhabited.
