The Elliot is a 93.7 m cargo ship built in Spain and launched in 1962 under the name ASK, flying the Norwegian flag. She was later renamed Zepmare and Jutland. Sold to Ugars Marine Co., of Panama, she was given the name Elliot in 1980. Today the stern superstructure sits above the water and the bow is embedded in the reef; the position of the rudder shows that the ship ran aground head-on.
In the area of the holds, the hull's sides have collapsed, leaving a tangle of metal and piping. The seabed around the ship is littered with pieces of the wreck and has abundant marine life.
Cape Ras Dib, the first headland north of Sha'ab Ali, marks an area rich in shipwrecks in the Gulf of Suez, a region that sees few divers. In the Gulf of Suez, the water temperature can drop to 16 °C in winter.
