El Shugarat means "little trees" in Arabic, a reference to the site's forest of gorgonian fan corals. On leaving the canyon, divers come upon a large forest of gorgonian fan corals.
Inside the canyon, it is worth looking for the long nose hawkfish. In the lagoon there are giant table corals, nudibranchs, blue spotted rays and crocodile fish. Turtles also show up occasionally. Brightly coloured strawberry corals and small fish complete the scene.
