Egypt
In the El Quseir region, excavations identified Quseir al-Quadim, "old Quseir", 8 km north of the present-day town, with Myos Hormos, a Ptolemaic and Roman port that thrived in the 1st century AD and declined by the 3rd century. The bay is also called "The Old One".
The bay is large, with a north side and a south side, and the reef has small and large caves and is kept in its natural state. Clownfish, large batfish, seamoths, ghost pipefish and a resident moray eel named Erna live on this reef. The animals recorded at the site also include eagle rays, turtles, seahorses, frogfish, carpet crocodile fish and stonefish. The site is known for frequent shark visits, with abundant marine and coral life. With a bit of luck, dolphins and mantas occasionally appear.
The bay is usually dived year-round. In the El Quseir region, the best time usually runs from April to October, with autumn especially recommended.
