El Bohar Kebir is so large that a single dive is barely enough to go all the way around it. Some of the large ergs, as the coral towers are called, reach up to the surface, and in the space between them and the main reef there is a coral garden.
Both the east and the west sides hold extensive coral gardens and many blocks with soft corals, while the main reef is home to hard coral gardens. In the recesses on the west side, barracudas and other fish often hide. In the Hamata area, the best season tends to run from May to October, with less wind and a less choppy sea.
