Maldives
The site is known as Coral City for its abundance of corals, which form pinnacles, pillars, swim-throughs and canyons. There are columnar corals 5 m tall, alive and thousands of years old, as well as round corals of unusual size.
Hard corals are very abundant and varied, and ghost pipefish and schools of fusiliers are often sighted. Scorpion fish, lion fish, pipefish, garden eels, nudibranchs, turtles and feather tail stingrays are also commonly seen. At the end of the dive, the sandy patches have pipefish and nudibranchs. The site works as a cleaning station and a nursery, and a few sharks, stingrays, wasp fish and shrimp typically show up, along with larger fish that pass through to be cleaned.
In 2012, there was an attempt to have the site declared a marine reserve; the information from that year does not say whether this came to pass.
