Maldives
There are group tours led by marine biologists.
The gallery was installed in 2018, commissioned by the Fairmont. Its stainless steel cube is 6 m tall and weighs over 180 tonnes, and it was built in the United Kingdom and assembled on site. In September 2018, two days before the general election, the government of the Maldives removed and destroyed all 30 sculptures, deeming them idols and anti-Islamic. In 2019, the resort unveiled new abstract sculptures by Taylor, inspired by coral colonies. They rise from 10 semi-submerged plinths, stand up to 5 m tall and are made of more than 500 ceramic 'starfish', which attract fish and crustaceans.
The structure works as an artificial reef: hard corals, sponges and thousands of schooling fish live within its walls. The team also transplants coral fragments there.
