Maldives
Coral Pop Reef is an artificial reef recently created as part of the man-made underwater park in the Blue Lagoon, where sponsored corals and corals from the resort's nursery are replanted. It covers more than 100 m² and was built to give more shelter and refuge to the lagoon's marine life.
In the Blue Lagoon, where Coral Pop Reef is located, several species of fish, rays, moray eels and invertebrates quickly made their home. Night diving in the lagoon is a highlight: several rays and the eyes of many small shrimps and crabs accompany the divers.
The same Blue Lagoon is home to the resort's 3D-printed reef, recognised as the largest of its kind in the world. It was submerged in 2018 in a sandy part of the lagoon, where the resort hopes to create a new reef ecosystem, and fragments from the coral nursery were transplanted onto it.
