Maldives
The top of Budha Giri measures about 60 by 40 metres, and the site is full of overhangs and small coral heads (bommies). There is a lot of macro life sheltering beneath the overhangs and among the small coral heads, surrounded by reef fish. Large pelagics sometimes pass in the distance, particularly when outside currents are up.
In Dhivehi dive site designations, "giri" means an underwater pillar close to the surface, while "thila" means an underwater pillar. In Thaa, the region is known for its abundance of marine life and its variety of fish, sharks, turtles and rays.
Thaa has almost no resorts, so most dive sites in the region are only accessible to divers on a liveaboard. In this region, diving is usually done from liveaboard dive cruise boats, with space often limited.
