Maldives
In the fish surveys carried out at the site, the groupers Cephalopholis argus and C. miniata and the wrasse Coris cuvieri were recorded on every dive. The garden eel Heteroconger hassi and the snowflake moray Echidna nebulosa were seen on half of the surveys. Just two surveys added up to 194 recorded species. Berinmadhoo, the island that gives the site its name, was once inhabited, and its residents were moved to Hoarafushi, in the same atoll, under a population consolidation programme. In 2006, 171 residents of Berinmadhoo were resettled on Hoarafushi.
