Maldives
Colorful fan corals, gorgonians and whip corals gather in large numbers, and flat worms, ring worms and tube worms, shrimps, crabs and moray eels hide in the nooks and crannies of the reef. The site is described as an "El Dorado" for photographers and macro fans. The island of Bodulhaimendhoo, on the southernmost edge of Noonu Atoll, is uninhabited and covers 40 hectares; its middle forms a bay surrounded by wetlands. Among the characteristics that motivated the protection of the island are the surrounding reef, the mangroves, the wetlands and the beach where turtles nest. In the Kuda-Funafaru region, diving is usually good all year round, and the best season for manta rays usually runs from June to October.
