Egypt
The cargo ship was launched in Japan in 1966, at the Imabari Zosen shipyard, under the name Masashima Maru; she was later renamed Zougro and, from 1974, Attiki, under a Greek owner. Just before midnight on 24 April 1978, en route to Port Sudan with a cargo of cement, she ran aground at Ras Dib. With her holds and engine room flooded, the ship was abandoned and later caught fire. Today the wreckage has been colonised by lionfish, surgeons and soft corals, along with numerous nudibranchs, which appear larger here than at other dive sites.
