In Dhivehi, a thila (or tila) is a pillar of coral that has grown close to the water surface but does not form an island. The reef at Angaga drops steeply on all sides and is dotted with overhangs of different sizes.
The thila is home to many turtles, and stone fish, juvenile sharks and octopus are often found hiding under and around the coral blocks. There are also hunting tunas, schools of barracudas, mantis shrimp, a rare patterned puffer fish, white tip reef sharks and a school of banner fish. The best time to dive the site usually runs from April to November.
