Maldives
The so-called caves of Akirifushi are large overhangs formed by the reef south of the island. They lie about 150 m west of an exposed rock on the reef edge, where the reef bows in and out. There are caves and ledges with soft yellow coral, sponges and sea fans with feather stars, as well as stinging hydroids. The reef is home to morays, stingrays, turtles and pufferfish. The rocky floor has sponges, soft corals and anemones, and many bannerfish and fusiliers tend to accompany divers. Soldierfish, groupers, oriental sweetlips and angelfish circle among small overhangs and canyons.
