Abu Talha

At Abu Talha the entry crosses the top of the reef, so the site can only be dived comfortably in calm seas and at high tide. Because of this the site sees few visitors, and the corals are in excellent condition. The reef forms a gently sloping coral garden with pinnacles, which to the north turns into a sandy slope with table corals, and it encircles a lagoon. There is also a small canyon and a sink hole, and the dive can head either left or right from the entry.

The site is also home to the Abu Talha Canyon, which, because of its depth and location, is a technical rather than a recreational dive. In December 2018 the Abu Talha Canyon Project began, aiming to map the canyon and create a 3D model of this tectonic feature.

Abu Talha is known for its large schools of red-toothed triggerfish over the table corals. At the entry there is a chance of small barracudas, and sometimes turtles and eagle rays pass by. Along the coral walls you can find big groupers, big starry puffers, unicornfish, wrasse, triggerfish and lionfish.
